Daniel Goleman: Emotional Intelligence : Why It Can Matter More Than IQ
A classic that goes a long way toward understanding what makes successful people tick. Also helps you deal with the various idiosyncracies and hangups that plauge us all.
David McCullough: John Adams
Well written and full of details that bring this key player in the early republic's history to life.
Frances Mayes: The Discovery of Poetry: A Field Guide to Reading and Writing Poems
Ever striving to be a well rounded bean counter...this is a neat little book that fills in the areas I was less enthusiastic about when I was paying for an education.
H.W. Brands: The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin
If all that comes to mind are kites, keys and lightening bolts this is a very readable and interesting biography on one of America's most prominent statesmen.
Pat Croce: Lead or Get Off the Pot! : The Seven Secrets of a Self-Made Leader
I picked this up after reading Croce's "I Feel Great!" Filled with entertaining anecdotes is a light and fun read on leading individuals and teams.
Robert L. Heilbroner: The Worldly Philosophers : The Lives, Times And Ideas Of The Great Economic Thinkers
Maybe the most interesting and readable economics classic out there. I read it once very couple of years and never get tired of it.
Various: Good Poems
Unlike the stuff we suffered through in high school I actually enjoy reading these.
I am a CPA and business consultant living in Bradenton, FL. My practice focuses on closely held businesses and helping their owners get more out of life.
I was actually born in Florida and grew up in Ocala. After attending Covenant College in Lookout Mt., Georgia I returned home and went to work in the family business (an accounting firm of all things). Later I served as CFO and director of client services for a stable of technology and dot-com companies headquartered in St. Petersburg, FL. In 2000 I rejoined the world of public accounting and spent 5+ years with two of the areas largest firms. In August of 2005 I started Axiom Professional Group to focus on business and tax consulting for closely held companies.
I live in Bradenton with my wonderful wife Josie and our son Drew. In short "Life is good, business is great and people are wonderful."
When I'm not helping clients or writing for the blog you might find me paddling a kayak or hanging out in the hammock with my family.
